Binocular Vision Dysfunction Treatment in Lakeport

If you’ve seen multiple providers and haven’t found relief from ongoing headaches, dizziness, or persistent eye strain, binocular vision dysfunction (BVD) may be the underlying cause. BVD occurs when your eyes don’t work together as a team, and it often goes undetected without specialized testing.

At Konocti View Optometry, we’ll begin with a detailed evaluation of how your eyes align and work together, then create a treatment plan based on your specific symptoms. Standard glasses or contact lenses don’t always address the root cause, but with the right testing and a personalized approach, we can help improve your comfort and visual function.

What is binocular vision dysfunction?

Binocular vision dysfunction occurs when your eyes and brain don’t work together correctly, making it difficult to see the world as a single, seamless image.¹ Even a very small misalignment can force your visual system to work harder, producing fatigue, discomfort, and other symptoms that a standard eye exam may not catch.

A comprehensive eye exam, including testing for eye teaming, eye movement, and visual processing, is often the key to finally identifying what’s been wrong.

Common symptoms of BVD

BVD can affect everyone a little differently, but some symptoms tend to show up more often. These may include:

  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Eye strain or tired eyes after reading or screen time
  • Blurry or double vision (Sudden-onset double vision is an eye emergency. If this happens, we can often see you the same day for emergency eye care and provide referrals if necessary.)
  • Dizziness, motion sensitivity, or balance issues
  • Difficulty concentrating, especially on near tasks
  • Light sensitivity
  • Trouble with depth perception

If you’ve been told your eyes are healthy, but you’re still dealing with these symptoms, it may be time to look more closely at how your eyes are working together.

Treatment for BVD

Based on our findings, we may recommend one or more of the following:

Prism lenses

We can incorporate prisms into your glasses to help align the images from each eye, reducing the strain your brain works to compensate for.

Neurolens

Neurolenses address eye misalignment that standard glasses prescriptions can’t correct. Many patients with chronic headaches, neck and shoulder tension, and eye strain experience noticeable relief with Neurolens. We include Neurolens testing as part of your binocular vision evaluation to determine if it’s a good fit for your needs.

Vision therapy

For some patients, a structured program of vision therapycustomized exercises designed to strengthen eye teaming and coordination—is the most effective treatment approach for lasting relief. Vision therapy addresses the root cause of the problem rather than just managing symptoms.

Ongoing care & follow-up

Binocular vision needs can change, especially after injury, illness, or as part of normal development. We schedule follow-up appointments to track your progress and adjust your plan over time.
