LASIK Consultation in Lakeport
If you’re tired of depending on glasses or contact lenses for clear vision, LASIK surgery may be the answer! At Konocti View Optometry, we offer LASIK consultations in Lakeport to help you decide if LASIK or another refractive eye surgery is right for you. During your consultation, our eye doctor will discuss whether you’re a candidate for refractive surgery and what to expect throughout the process.
What is refractive eye surgery?
Refractive eye surgery refers to any surgical procedure used to correct vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The most common refractive eye surgery is laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), but other types include photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser epithelial keratomileusis (LASEK).
LASIK surgery involves using a laser to remove a thin layer of your cornea (the clear front window of your eye). This gives your cornea a new shape and improves how light focuses on your retina.
Your refractive eye surgery consultation
During your LASIK or refractive eye surgery consultation, Dr. Boyd will closely examine your eyes to determine your suitability for the procedure.¹ Two key measurements we take are corneal topography and pachymetry:
- Corneal topography (corneal mapping) creates a detailed map of the surface of your cornea, helping us identify any irregularities or corneal diseases that could affect your candidacy for surgery.
- Pachymetry measures the thickness of your cornea. This is important because both LASIK and PRK thin the cornea as part of the procedure. Ensuring your cornea is thick enough to safely undergo surgery is a critical part of the evaluation.
Together, these measurements help us determine whether LASIK will maintain the structural integrity of your cornea and whether you’re a strong candidate for surgery.
If you’re a good candidate, we’ll refer you to our trusted surgical partner, NVISION, and co-manage your care, handling all your post-operative appointments right here in Lakeport.

Frequently asked questions about LASIK surgery
We encourage patients to come to their consultation with questions—it’s one of the best ways to feel confident about your decision. The American Academy of Ophthalmology offers a helpful list of questions if you’re not sure where to start. Below are the ones we hear most often at Konocti View Optometry.
How much does LASIK cost?
The cost of LASIK varies depending on the technology used, the surgeon, and your individual prescription. During your consultation, we’ll help connect you with NVISION so you can get accurate pricing information. Many practices also offer financing options to make the procedure more accessible.
How long does LASIK last?
LASIK permanently reshapes the cornea, and for most patients the results are long-lasting. However, your eyes can still change over time due to aging or other factors, which may mean some patients need an enhancement or reading glasses as they get older.
Does insurance cover LASIK?
LASIK is typically considered an elective procedure and is not covered by most standard vision or health insurance plans. Some flexible spending accounts (FSAs) or health savings accounts (HSAs) can be used to help cover the cost. We recommend checking with your provider for details.
How long does LASIK surgery take?
The procedure itself is surprisingly quick. LASIK typically takes around 15 minutes for both eyes, though you should plan to be at the surgical center for a few hours to allow time for preparation and initial recovery.
